The FSUCML Academic Diving Program (ADP)--established in 1975--oversees and supports all diving conducted under the auspices of Florida State University and is an active institutional member of The American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) and of the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI).
The two primary components of ADP are science and instructional diving. Science diving supports the research diving needs of faculty and students from the departments of Anthropology, Biology, Geology, Oceanography, Social Sciences, and Exercise/Physiology, as well as several outside agencies, including the Florida Geologic Survey and the Environmental Protection Agency. Diving instruction includes courses in using diving as a research tool, oxygen delivery, and risk management, among many others. Our NAUI leadership program is designed for students interested in becoming more advanced level science divers.
The Academic Diving Program is expanding its research, education, and outreach missions to include support for remote underwater survey techniques, including use of side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and remote operated vehicles. We look forward to these changes with a great deal of anticipation and excitement.
