Evening at the Edge of the Sea
10 October 2009 12:30-3:30 PM
COST: $25
The FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory's marine outreach program, “Exploring the Edge of the Sea” (EES) will be held on Saturday, October 10, 1009, from 12:30-3:30 PM. Professor Bill Herrnkind designed EES to educate and inspire coastal citizens, through hands-on experience, about the strange and wonderful sea life along our pristine shores and shallows
We will begin the program in the Auditorium with a brief, illustrated overview of the general ecology of this part of the Gulf of Mexico, spotlighting its more intriguing habitats and organisms. Then we will take a short, guided walking tour of the Lab and meet some of the local marine denizens in our seawater touch-tanks. From there, we don wading shoes* and walk the exposed tidal sands where an array of fascinating life-forms can be seen. Finally, we'll return to the auditorium for Q & A, visiting, and refreshments.
Payment is due at registration. A portion of this fee goes to support undergraduate research in marine biology.
Instructor: Dr. William F. Herrnkind, Professor Emeritus, FSU
